Medicare Patch Expires Soon

Medicare SGR fix should top Congress' to-do list in coming months

The current temporary six-month Medicare SGR patch will expire at the end of November at which time, if Congress does not act, a 23 percent cut in reimbursements to physicians treating Medicare patients will occur. That cut will increase to nearly 30 percent in January, 2011. This means that doctors won't be able to afford to treat Medicare patients.  In the coming months, it is imperative that Alabama’s Congressional Delegation understand the importance of this issue to seniors and their physicians, and take the lead to enacting a permanent, positive fix for this recurring problem.

Please take a moment to sign the Fix Medicare Now petition, if you have not already done so. Currently, the petition has attracted nearly 2,500 signatures but it needs more names. Please encourage your peers, friends and family to sign the petition and explain to them why Congress must “Fix Medicare Now” to ensure Medicare recipients can continue receiving the high quality care they expect and deserve.
